In the only lab study of strain-labelled products, six products sold as different strains showed no significant difference in mitragynine or total alkaloids (Huisman 2023). Field studies find vein colour doesn't track alkaloid content either.

Banned in 7 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Louisiana, Tennessee, Vermont, Wisconsin. Elsewhere it's legal, often with age limits and 7-OH rules — legal, regulated in 21 states. 12 states are still being confirmed on their own sites.
